Ranguana Caye has got to be one of the most beautiful islands I’ve ever visited. We left from Placencia to embark on a one-ish hour journey to this castaway island. After an hour of a being tossed around (quite literally because the sea was so rough and the captain showed no mercy) I could finally see this beautiful little island in the distance. It was almost like a mirage- just this little oasis in the middle of the ocean. The moment I stepped on the island, the rough boat ride was nearly forgotten about and I was finally able to fully unwind.
How to visit Ranguana Caye
Ranguana Caye is just two tiny acres making it the perfect spot to get ‘shipwrecked.’ However, if you want to stay overnight there are accommodations on the island providing you with ample time to disconnect and take full advantage of the kayaks, hammocks, snorkeling, paddle boarding and beach games! If a day trip is all you have time for, you can book through your hotel which is how we were able to experience this island through booking with The Placencia. Included in the excursion is an island lunch and don’t sweat it, if you have any dietary restrictions just notify the person you book with and they will accommodate as best as possible. Worth noting, although its described as a private island it isn’t a true private island. There was one other boat that arrived along with the boats sailing by the island that just stopped in for the day. Nonetheless, it was jaw droppingly beautiful.
Tips
- Bring a dry bag for the boat ride to protect your equipment/phone etc.
- Wear a swimsuit or clothes you don’t care about getting wet because you will inevitably be splashed (violently) by the waves.
- Pack water, sunscreen, sunnies and a towel. Pro tip: if you bring your own water bottle they will refill it for free.
- Cash and cards are accepted on the island when purchasing drinks like fresh coconuts!
- WiFi is available!
- There are bathrooms and to my surprise I found them to be very clean.
