A Canadian Rocky Mountain Retreat: Buffalo Mountain Lodge

December 1, 2017

Located 10 minutes from the center of Banff is this little home away from home, Buffalo Mountain Lodge. Banff is a place known for its beautiful scenery, crisp mountain air, and let’s face it- the mountains. Buffalo Mountain Lodge is perched on Tunnel Mountain, formerly known as “Sleeping Buffalo” by the First Nations living in the region. The peaceful mountain retreat is surrounded by stunning views, tall pines and wildlife. Whether you’re visiting Banff for its skiing, world-renowned hiking or relaxation, staying at Buffalo Mountain Lodge will surely become yet another reason to visit once again.

The Premier Room

There are 108 guest rooms on the property all appointed with wood burning stone fireplaces and private baths. Not just any bath though, I’m talking a bear-claw footed bath perfect for defrosting after a day of exploring! Other in room amenities include one king or two queen beds, heated slate floors (YES), coffee makers, irons/ironing boards, and hair dryers. Back to the heated floors, they were a game changer. When you wake up in the morning and stumble into the bathroom there is nothing worse than an ice cold floor. Talk about a wake up call. Well, at Buffalo Mountain Lodge you don’t have to worry about that!

Dining

Dining in the Sleeping Buffalo Dining Room takes hotel dining to an entirely new level and is very much a part of the Banff foodie scene. I enjoyed both breakfast and dinner here, lunch is available at a separate location called Buffalo Mountain Café.

The Sleeping Buffalo Dining room is newly renovated taking inspiration from natural elements like wood and stone. And the menu? Next level delicious. Even if you aren’t staying on the property you should still stop here for dinner!

Breakfast was also delicious! Bottomless coffee makes me happy. Again with the delicious options, huevos rancheros, mountain granola, and eggs benedict are just a few of the options. Also, the fruit plate is no joke! So.much.fruit.

Worth noting is how accommodating the chef is here, the kitchen was able to adjust each dish to all of my dietary needs!

The Grounds

Like I said, you’re surrounded by nature here. Which means sweeping views of the Canadian Rockies. Not only that, but the lodge is so expansive that they host a variety of weddings, conferences, retreats, and meetings. The Wine Cellar is perhaps my favorite part, either that or the jacuzzi! Let me tell you, it feels amazing relaxing in the jacuzzi as the snow falls. Afterwards, you must head to the dry sauna.

Getting Here

Getting here is simple! There are plenty of options upon landing in Calgary, about an hour and half long drive. Once in Banff, Buffalo Mountain Lodge is on Tunnel Mountain Road, just 3 minutes by car to the center of Banff and 15 minutes by foot on the boardwalk!

Transportation

If you’re not renting a car there are plenty of options for getting to the lodge. Try either Brewster, Banff Transportation, or Banff Airporter (guests of the property get a 15% discount using the code BML!). Once you’re on the property, there is a complimentary shuttle for all guests. The shuttle has routes into Banff and the surrounding ski areas.

Buffalo Mountain Lodge is the perfect little home away from home when visiting Banff. It’s different from the many hotels in Banff as it’s situated right on the side of Tunnel Mountain, giving you instant access to the wild outdoors. As they say, “A stay at Buffalo Mountain Lodge will be savored for years to come.”

Women & the Wilderness was a welcomed guest of Buffalo Mountain Lodge, however, as always, our opinions are our own.
